One Small Step For Bloggers, A Giant Leap For the VAR
October 3, 2007 |
The Virginia Association of REALTORS 2007 Conference has been underway for a while now. You can follow all of the action from the VAR live blog here. Despite my best intentions to attend the conference, I had to be out of town until last night, and later today I have an NCAA Officials’ meeting in Roanoke. Luckily, the blog helps me, and all the other REALTORS who couldn’t make it, stay informed.
The event that I think deserves attention is the VAR BloggerCon, which will take place later today at the convention. Why does a gathering of real estate bloggers from around the Commonwealth deserve attention? Because it was convened not by the bloggers as a separate event, but by the VAR, through the foresight of Ben Martin.
To me, an event such as the VAR BloggerCon is historic. It shows that our association is at least willing to engage bloggers and willing to recognize the potential impact of not only blogging, but other social media as well. As far as I can tell, the VAR is one of the first, if not the first, association in the country to host such an event. Heck, the NAR doesn’t even have something like this (which is why I have begun work to host a similar event at the 2007 NAR Conference).
It is good to see that at least one person in charge at the VAR has an ear to the ground (or keyboard, as the case may be) when it comes to social media and new technology. Hopefully, the BloggerCon is just the tip of the iceberg for the VAR.

Got something to say?

Daniel, so sorry you couldn’t make it to Williamsburg for the Convention & Expo. You were missed. I think you can count on another VAR blogger meetup before the next convention in Baltimore.
